Flexible Ducting

Flexible ducting is a critical component used to connect rigid ductwork to air terminals like diffusers, grilles, and terminal units. Its primary function is to facilitate routing around obstacles, accommodate minor alignment offsets, and minimize vibration transfer from mechanical equipment into the main ventilation system. Typically constructed from a spring steel wire helix covered with layers of plastic, metalized film, or aluminum, flexible ducts are lightweight and easy to install. Insulated versions include an outer vapor barrier and a fiberglass layer to maintain thermal efficiency and prevent condensation in cooling applications. Flexible ducting offers essential versatility in HVAC system installation, particularly in tight or complex ceiling spaces where rigid sheet metal is impractical. While highly versatile, proper installation, avoiding sharp bends and excessive length, is required to maintain system airflow and minimize static pressure losses.
