Backdraft Dampers

A Backdraft Damper is a passive mechanical device engineered to prevent the unwanted reversal of airflow within a ductwork system. Unlike motorized dampers, they require no external actuator or control signal, operating entirely on the principle of air pressure and gravity. The primary function relies on lightweight blades or vanes that automatically open when the desired airflow is present and immediately close when the fan shuts down or air pressure reverses. This ensures one-way flow, effectively sealing the duct opening to the atmosphere or to adjacent zones, minimizing system leakage and energy loss. Backdraft Dampers are critical components in exhaust, supply, and relief air applications to maintain energy efficiency and system integrity. They prevent conditioned air from escaping when the HVAC system is off and isolate fan systems, protecting sensitive components and minimizing drafts or the intrusion of contaminants from the outside environment.
