Heaters and Coolers
Duct Heaters and Coolers are essential components for achieving precise zone-level thermal control downstream of primary air handling units. These devices allow for sophisticated reheating or recooling of the air immediately before it enters a conditioned space, enabling multi-zone systems to satisfy diverse temperature setpoints from a single central source. Electric duct heaters utilize resistive coils to generate heat instantly and are favored for their low installation cost and ease of control. Conversely, water-based coil systems—which include both heating coils and cooling coils —use hydronics for highly efficient and scalable thermal exchange, often integrating into VAV terminal boxes. By performing terminal conditioning, they eliminate the need to over-cool or over-heat the entire building air supply. This decoupling of central ventilation from zone temperature control minimizes central plant load, allowing for exact climate management, rapid response to changes in occupancy, and optimized system performance that adheres to demanding energy codes.
